Some Biographical DetailsWhen I was scheduled to visit the Governor, his PA asked me to compose a brief CV so that he might be properly briefed on who he was meeting. I've decided to publish it here, just on the off chance that anyone looking at this site might actually be interested in a little bit about who I am and where I have come from.... Douglas R. born: July 19, 1964 in Dumfries, Scotland parents: Helen & Charlie Robertson: their health isn't so good Mum was a child minder most of her working life Dad was a blacksmith / manager of small engineering company
brothers: Andrew, 2 years older than me lives in Yorkshire with his wife and 2 teenage children works in youth and community services with Barnardos UK
Malcolm, 5 years younger than me lives in Glasgow works as a delivery driver
raised: just 6 months in Dumfries for 18 months we lived with maternal grand-parents in Glasgow in June 1966 Mum and Dad bought their first and only home it is in Bearsden, a nice suburb of Glasgow I lived at home with them until just after my 21st birthday schooling: Colquhoun Park Primary School (7 years) Boclair Academy (5 years – I left after the equivalent of year 11) both of these schools are in Bearsden left with 5 'Highers' in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English and French family: Married Alison Macdonald in October 1986 we had been at high school together J Alison’s parents, like mine, are still in their first marital home they also live in Bearsden
Eilidh (pronounced ay-lay) born in Aberdeen Sept 1989 (now 19) schooled at PLC, Melbourne from grade 6 to yr 12 (2007) spent 2008 travelling in Europe with her boyfriend now home & starting tertiary studies in February
Mairi (pronounced like ‘marry’) born in Melbourne Nov 1992 (16) PLC Melbourne since grade 3 yr 11 in 2009 ambitious to become an actress or an architect or both
Duncan, born in Alexandria Scotland, Aug 1999 (9) Mont Albert Primary School since prep grade 4 in 2009 wants to be a scientist / inventor when he grows up engineering: from 1979 – 1985 I worked Easter & summer holidays with Dad steel fabrication, cutting, welding, braising & on-site erection BSc (honours) from Strathclyde University in Glasgow Production Engineering and Management Graduated July 1985 NCR (formerly National Cash Register), Dundee & Dunfermilne from Aug 85 to Sept 87 and then over the summer of 89 Production Engineer, working on systems to build ATMs ministry: BD (bachelor of divinity, honours) from Aberdeen University majored in New Testament studies and Practical Theology Graduated in July 1990 St Georges – Tillydrone Church, Aberdeen (Church of Scotland) Licensed Probationary Assistant Minister May 1990 – Aug 1991 Scots’ Church, Melbourne Ordained Assistant Minister Sept 1991 – May 1994 Appin & Lismore Parish Churches, Argyll (Church of Scotland) Parish Minister May 1995 – January 2001 Scots’ Church, Melbourne Senior Minister Since February 2001 positions: Chairman, PLC Melbourne since June 2002 Chairman, Presbyterian & Scots’ Church Joint Mission a welfare mission working out of Flemington Presbyterian Church since Feb 2001 Moderator, Presbyterian Church of Victoria Oct 2008 to Oct 2009 |
